Privacy Policy for ChineseBoo
Last Updated: June 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy details how Loreon LLC (hereinafter referred to as the "Company," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, utilizes, processes, and safeguards the personal data and digital telemetry of individuals who utilize the ChineseBoo mobile application (the "Application").
By creating an account, authenticating via third-party providers, or utilizing the core features of the Application, you acknowledge and consent to the data practices delineated in this document. If you do not agree with these policies, you must immediately cease using the Application.
1. Information We Collect
The Application operates as a specialized language learning and reading utility. To facilitate these services, we collect information across several operational categories based on strict data minimization principles.
Information You Provide Directly
To provide persistent synchronization and personalized learning experiences, the Application requires the direct submission of certain data points.
- Account and Identity Data: When registering via Single Sign-On (SSO) providers, we collect your primary email address, authentication provider metadata, and an internally generated User ID.
- User-Generated Study Data: We collect and securely archive the contents of your spaced-repetition flashcard decks, including saved vocabulary words, definitions, and learning progress metrics.
- Artificial Intelligence Interactions: To maintain persistent conversational sessions, we record the text of queries, prompts, and contextual text you push to the Application's Artificial Intelligence assistant, alongside the generated responses.
- Support Data: If you submit technical feedback, we collect the content of the message, software component stack traces, and your email address if provided.
Information Collected Automatically via Telemetry
To optimize the user experience and ensure the operational stability of the Application, specific behavioral and diagnostic data is collected automatically during active use.
- App Activity and Product Interaction: We collect behavioral telemetry to understand feature utilization. This includes data regarding your use of and actions within the Application, such as navigation, opening specific book types, utilizing the web reader interface, or engaging other core features.
- Device and Network Data: We collect hardware and network telemetry, including your device model, operating system version, active Application version, and broad geographic indicators derived from your IP address.
Information Processed Exclusively on Your Local Device
The Application performs specific operations entirely offline to maximize your privacy and minimize data transmission.
- Local EPUB Processing and State Data: Reading progress, bookmarks, and positional data for personal EPUB (an electronic publication file format used for digital books) files you import are stored exclusively on your local device hardware.
- Local Linguistic Operations: Standard dictionary lookups query a static database bundled within the Application. Similarly, Chinese word segmentation and Pinyin conversion algorithms execute locally. These processes do not transmit the specific text being queried to our servers.
2. Utilization of Collected Data
We process the collected information strictly for defined, legitimate business purposes:
- To authenticate user identities, synchronize study data across hardware devices, and manage premium subscription entitlements.
- To process user-selected text arrays for machine translation or artificial intelligence analysis when explicitly requested by the user.
- To analyze aggregate user behavior, understand feature adoption rates, and utilize anonymized diagnostic data to resolve software errors.
- To respond effectively to application errors, investigate technical anomalies, and resolve account-related inquiries.
- To proactively monitor for unauthorized usage patterns, prevent fraudulent activity, and maintain the integrity of the Application's infrastructure.
3. Data Sharing and Third-Party Sub-Processors
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to external data brokers or advertising networks. Data is shared exclusively with vetted service providers acting under strict confidentiality parameters to facilitate core functionality.
- Infrastructure and Identity Providers: We utilize external providers for authentication management and cloud hosting to securely encrypt and store your profiles, digital library states, and chat histories.
- Analytics Providers: We utilize PostHog to process event analytics and application error diagnostics. PostHog processes this data strictly as a data processor for the Company and is contractually prohibited from utilizing this data for cross-context tracking.
- Translation and Artificial Intelligence APIs: When you request an artificial intelligence explanation or a sentence translation, that specific text snippet—alongside recent conversational context—is transmitted to external artificial intelligence routing providers (e.g., OpenRouter) and machine translation APIs (Application Programming Interface, a set of protocols allowing different software applications to communicate) such as Lingvanex.
- Subscription Management: We share anonymous transaction identifiers with external subscription validation providers (e.g., RevenueCat) to interface with the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. We do not process raw payment card data.
4. Temporary Cloud Processing of User-Imported EPUB Files
When you elect to import a personal EPUB digital book into the Application, the file is temporarily uploaded to our cloud servers solely for the purpose of advanced structural parsing. This automated process extracts chapter demarcations and table of contents metadata to format the book for the application's specialized reading interface. Upon completion of this automated parsing, the processed data is returned to your device, and the original file is queued for deletion from our servers. We do not index, archive, read, manually review, or distribute the contents of your imported EPUB files.
5. Data Retention Parameters and Account Erasure Rights
We retain personal data only for the duration that you maintain an active account, or as legally necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, resolve disputes, and enforce contractual agreements.
You possess the right to request the total erasure of your account and all associated cloud data. The Application provides an account deletion interface within the settings menu. Upon initiating a verified deletion request, the Application will automatically erase your identity profile, synchronized flashcard decks, reading history, and artificial intelligence chat sessions from our active databases. Analytics telemetry previously collected may be retained strictly in an aggregated, fully anonymized format that can no longer be cryptographically linked to your identity.
If you no longer have the Application installed, you may submit a formal data deletion request via our Account and Data Deletion Request page.
6. Protection of Minors
The Application is designed for adult language learners and is not intended for, nor do we knowingly collect personal information from, children under the age of 13, or the applicable minimum digital age of consent within your specific jurisdiction. If we obtain actual knowledge that a child under the requisite age has provided personal data without verified parental or guardian consent, we will immediately terminate the unauthorized account and purge all associated data from our infrastructure.
7. Jurisdiction-Specific Privacy Rights
Depending on your geographic location, you may possess specific, legally enforceable rights regarding your personal data. This integrated policy ensures your rights are respected globally.
European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom
If you are located in the EEA or UK, our processing of your personal data is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We process your data based on the following lawful bases: the performance of our contract with you, our legitimate business interests, and, where applicable, your explicit consent.
Under the GDPR, you possess the following data subject rights:

- Withdrawal of Consent: Where processing is based on consent, you have the right to withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
- Automated Decision-Making: The right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing.
To exercise these rights, please contact us utilizing the information in Section 9.
California Consumer Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA grants you specific rights regarding your personal information.
In the preceding twelve (12) months, we have collected the following statutory categories of personal information:
- Identifiers: Real name, email address, and unique personal identifiers.
- Internet Activity: Browsing history within the Application, interaction data, and telemetry.
- Inferences: Drawn from the above to create a profile reflecting user language learning preferences.
You maintain the right to request disclosure of the specific pieces of information we have collected, the right to request deletion of your information, and the right to request correction of inaccurate data. We do not sell your personal information, nor do we share it with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.
8. Policy Modifications
We reserve the right to update, amend, or modify this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in legal requirements or technological deployments. If we make material changes that significantly affect your privacy rights, we will notify you via an in-app notification or by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Your continued utilization of the Application following any such modifications constitutes your formal acceptance of the revised data processing practices. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
